BEALLSVILLE, Md. (WNEW) — A man is dead following a violent single-vehicle crash that closed a portion of Darnestown Road near the Woodstock Equestrian Park in Beallsville during rush hour Thursday morning.
Kenneth James Lovelett, 58, was driving a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire eastbound on Darnestown Road when he crossed the center line, struck a utility pole and overturned after leaving the road around 4:05 a.m. Thursday, Montgomery County Police say.
The force of the collision sheared a telephone pole and caused Lovelett to be thrown from the car. He was not wearing a seatbelt, police say.
A preliminary investigation was unable to determine the cause of the crash and police say there were no witnesses to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
The road was shut down for more than five hours between Martinsburg Road and Route 109 while police investigated the crash.
Authorities say drivers may experience delays in the area as utility crews continue to repair the damaged telephone pole.
