Goucher College Sophomore in Serious Condition After Hit by Car

LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Goucher College sophomore and lacrosse player in serious condition after being struck by a car.

Matthew Gabriel, from Austin, Texas, was struck by a car early Sunday morning on Dulaney Valley Road, according to preliminary reports. Goucher College is located on Dulaney Valley Road.

Sanford J. Ungar, president of Goucher College, released this statement:

Dear Members of the Goucher Community,
As I reported earlier today, one of our students, Matthew Gabriel, was struck by a car early this morning. Matt remains in serious condition, but he is in the care of some of the best trauma physicians in the country.

An accident like this is very upsetting to a close-knit community like ours at Goucher. Cynthia Terry, college chaplain, invites people to come together to provide comfort and support to one another or to speak with her personally. Please feel free to drop by Heubeck Lounge anytime this evening between 8 and 10 p.m.

Haebler Memorial Chapel will also be open today, April 13, until midnight for those who wish to pray, reflect, light a candle, or sit quietly.
