Md. Officer Struck, Injured By Fleeing Car
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Anne Arundel County Police say an officer suffered minor injuries when he was hit by a car whose driver allegedly was fleeing from officers.
Police say about 11:45 a.m. Thursday, officers tried to stop a vehicle that was driving away from an alleged drug deal in Annapolis. Authorities say the car traveled into the parking lot at Annapolis Mall, where an officer patrolling on foot tried to get the driver to pull over.
Police say the car’s driver hit the officer and drove away. Other officers chased the car and eventually took the driver into custody.
Twenty-four-year-old Willie James Rhodes of Annapolis was charged with attempted murder, assault on a police officer and numerous traffic offenses.
