LANHAM, Md. (WNEW/AP) – Police in Prince George’s County say an officer was injured while responding to a domestic dispute in Clinton on Saturday.
Officers were called to a home in the 8600 block of Temple Hills Road for a domestic disturbance, with reports of shots fired, around 1 p.m.
Upon arrival, police say they observed a man run from the home and get into a nearby car. The officers attempted to stop the car with two men inside before it began moving.
The suspects were attempting to flee the scene and sped toward the officers, striking one of them, police say. During the encounter, two officers fired their weapons.
The officer struck was hospitalized and has since been released from the hospital, recovering from a knee injury.
The suspects were apprehended after checking into separate area hospitals, and after their vehicle had been recovered by police.
The involved officers are identified as Police Officer Garry Allen, a four-year veteran of the department and Police Officer Gregory Powell, who has been with the department for one year.
The suspects are identified as 28-year-old Carlos Thomas Barksdale, of the 2400 block of 14th Street in Southeast Washington, and 28-year-old Darren Jones, of the 16300 block of Baden Westwood Road in Brandywine.
The preliminary investigation suggests the motive for the initial burglary is domestic-related. Barksdale has a child in common with the victim, police say.
Authorities say the both men face assault and burglary charges.
