DC Man Gets 17 Years in 2011 Cab Driver Shooting

WASHINGTON — A D.C. man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for killing a taxi cab driver during a robbery in northeast Washington.

Twenty-three-year-old Rashad Slye was sentenced Friday by a federal judge in Washington. Slye had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed in the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Domingo Ezirike.

According to the government’s evidence, on Oct. 22, 2011, Ezirike picked up Slye in Landover, Md. Prosecutors say after Ezirike drove Slye to his destination on Ponds Street N.E., the two argued over the fare.

Authorities say Slye pulled out a handgun, searched Ezirike and his cab for money, and shot the driver before running away.
