WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Robert Griffin III is excited for the “competitiveness” DeSean Jackson — who agreed to terms — instantly brings to the Redskins offense, but wants to remind fans “we haven’t won anything yet.”
Griffin is thrilled about the team’s new-found firepower, he intimated in a text with 106.7 The Fan’s Grant Paulsen, but as the Redskins fan base finds itself reinvigorated upon learning the team had sealed the deal with Jackson, warns that acquiring the right pieces is merely the first step.
Griffin’s statement, via Grant Paulsen:
“We are excited to have him join our team. Our team and this city will be there for him. I understand his drive and his competitiveness to win. Always doing it for his dad and now doing it for this city.
“It’s an exciting time to be a Redskin fan and a part of this team because of the fire power that we have with all our guys. Everyone needs to understand that we haven’t won anything yet, and these next few months will be about building those bonds and chemistry so that we can.”
It’s understandable for Redskins fans to be thrilled about Jackson’s arrival in D.C.
His 1,332 yards ranked 9th in the NFL in 2013, and his 9 touchdowns tied for 14th.
If there’s a presiding theme to Griffin’s message to Redskins fans, it’s this: it’s okay to be excited about the direction of the team, but err on the side of cautious optimism, let the players get their work in, and wait to see how it plays out before declaring the Redskins Super Bowl champions in, not of, the offseason.
