LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — It’s no secret that the iPhone emoji catalog doesn’t exactly resemble a United Colors of Benetton ad.
But, according to a MTV report, that may soon change.
“There needs to be more diversity in the emoji character set” and Apple is working toward making that goal a reality, company spokeswoman Katie Cotton tells MTV.
Celebrities including Miley Cyrus and Tahj Mowry have said publicly that the emoji collection should be more diverse. A DoSomething.org petition has more than 4,000 signatures in favor of the cause.
Cotton did not tell MTV specifically when Apple product users can expect to see a more multicultural selection of emoji characters.
