LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Police are using video of an actual cell phone theft that occurred at the Capitol South station as a teaching tool for distracted Metro riders.
Video released by Metro Transit Police shows a woman looking down at her phone and unaware that a robber was lurking behind her. The thief snatched the device out of her hand and ran away. She gave chase before falling to the ground.
The theft occurred around 2 p.m. on March 22, according to police. The thief was apprehended outside of the station and the woman got her phone back.
Authorities say victims should not chase suspects, but should instead study them in hopes of being able to provide a good description to police.
