WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – When Christine Pelosi tweeted a picture that evoked the famous “don’t tread on me” rallying cry, conservative websites saw it as an effort by the Democrats to co-opt that flag, which has been adopted by members of the Tea Party.

Breitbart blogger called Democrats hypocrites because, he says, they have been equating the “don’t tread on me flag” with the confederate battle flag. And, says Joel Pollack, the use of this flag is a sign of the Democrats desperation going into the mid-term elections.

Pollack says it’s ironic to use that flag with a “don’t tread on Obamacare” message because a large version of the original Gadsen flag was waving on the White House grounds during a protest against the signing of the Affordable Care Act into law.
