HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Police say a 19-year-old man has acknowledged he fatally stabbed his paternal grandparents last weekend in their rural, western Maryland home.
Court documents released Friday also say that Joseph Minoglio (min-OH’-lee-oh) told police he put the knife in the dishwasher before driving 200 miles in his grandparents’ car to Montgomery County, Va.. He turned himself in there early Sunday morning. Minoglio’s attorney declined to comment.
Police say investigators found the blood-stained knife in the dishwasher of Joseph and Peggy Minoglio’s home in Keedysville.
Minoglio’s mother told investigators her son has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. She said he had been acting strangely since his medication was recently changed.
She told police she had dropped her son off at the grandparents’ house on Saturday, the day they were killed.
