WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - In a major March Madness upset, the Mercer Bears defeated the Duke Blue Devils 78-71 in Raleigh, North Carolina on Friday.

Mercer, a 14-seed, beating three-seeded Duke is perhaps the biggest upset of the entire first two days of the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

Outside of the school’s National Championship in 2010, Duke is beginning to develop a reputation of opening round letdowns.

The most recent occurrence came in 2012, when Duke was knocked out 75-70 in the early going by 15-seeded Lehigh.

In 2007, Duke lost 79-77 to 11-seeded VCU.
