74-Year-Old Woman Charged with Serial Arsons in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va.— A 74-year-old woman has been charged with a series of arsons in an Alexandria apartment complex.

At a press conference Thursday, the Alexandria Fire Department the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms said they arrested Shirley Ann Vigneau (vinn-YO’) in connection with a series of fires at the Southern Towers apartment complex on Seminary Road.

Authorities say Vigneau has confessed to more than two dozen fires at the complex in the last year that caused $50,000 in damage, but no injuries.

The arrest of Vigneau, a resident of the apartment complex, follows a 10-month investigation.
