Two People Seriously Hurt After SUV, Trash Truck Collide in Anne Arundel

LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Two people were seriously hurt when an SUV and trash truck collided Tuesday morning in Anne Arundel County, authorities say.
The accident occurred just before 10 a.m. at Water Oak Point Road and Fort Smallwood Road in Pasadena, near Compass Pointe Golf Course, according to an Anne Arundel County Fire spokesperson.
Authorities say the driver of the SUV and trash truck were trapped in their vehicles.
The driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old man, was transported by helicopter to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious, life-threatening injuries. The driver of the trash truck, a 39-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Two other passengers in the trash truck were treated for minor injuries at the scene but refused transport to a hospital.

Authorities say Verizon phone lines were knocked down during the accident, and communications in the Fort Smallwood Road area will be impacted until crews can repair the wires. It could be 36 hours before the phone lines are back up and running, authorities said.
Fort Smallwood Road remains closed at Water Oak Point Road.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
