Overturned Tanker Truck Shuts Down Rt. 50

LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — One driver was seriously injured when an 18-wheel tanker truck overturned and shutdown all eastbound lanes on Route 50 in Prince George’s County Monday evening.

The tanker was traveling on westbound on Route 50 near Enterprise Road when it crashed into the median wall and flipped over into the eastbound traffic lanes, says Prince George’s County Fire and EMS spokesperson Mark Brady.

The accident initially shut down all eastbound traffic lanes on Route 50.

The driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that are believed to be serious, but not life threatening.

The tanker was carrying non-hazardous material used as an irritant in the manufacture of nylon.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
