Gov. Terry McAuliffe Starts New Political Action Committee

RICHMOND, Va. — Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe is launching a new political action committee aimed at raising money to help like-minded politicians.

McAuliffe emailed supporters Monday announcing the start of Common Good VA, while also listing the accomplishments of what he called an incredibly productive legislative session.

The General Assembly is set to reconvene next week in a special session to try and pass a biennial budget.

Politician-centered PACs are a common feature in Virginia politics, which has unlimited donation limits.

But House Republican leaders criticized the timing of McAuliffe’s announcement, saying the governor is more focused on politics than governing.

Republicans had previously asked the governor to extend the normal legislative session rather than call a special session — a move that would have limited elected officials from fundraising.
