WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – The Washington Redskins have informed center Will Montgomery he will be released, 106.7 The Fan’s Sky Kerstein reports.
Montgomery has spent his last five NFL seasons in Washington (2009-2013). Prior to that, he spent two seasons between the Jets and Panthers.
The Redskins would have taken a cap hit of $3.42 million if Montgomery had remained on the roster, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post.
Cutting him saves the team $1.92 million.
The team will reportedly move guard Kory Lichtensteiger over to center as his replacement, Jones says.
