WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Our neighbors to the north just brought in a high-powered weapon for quarterback Joe Flacco, with the Baltimore Ravens announcing the signing 13-year NFL veteran receiver Steve Smith, who will be 35-years-old by the start of the 2014 season.
The Ravens quickly inked Smith to a three-year deal after he was cut by the Panthers on Thursday, according to BaltimoreRavens.com writer Ryan Mink.
“I want to make sure that whatever team I go to, they’re going to get the best, in shape 35-year-old guy they can get,” Smith told WFNZ after being cut by the Panthers. “If that happens to run through Bank of America Stadium, put your goggles on cause there’s going to be blood and guts everywhere.”
Despite his age, Smith has been able to play at a relatively high level – combining for 137 receptions and 1,919 yards and 8 touchdowns – in the last two seasons.
Smith has caught 836 balls for 12,197 yards and 67 touchdowns in his career.
