Dana White: St-Pierre to ‘Come Back’ to UFC and ‘Get His Title Back’
WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - Dana White reinforced the belief that longtime face of the UFC, Georges St. Pierre, will return to the UFC and reclaim his title, in an interview with 106.7 The Fan’s Lavar and Dukes on Friday.
On Thursday, the UFC President told reporters he “knew for a fact” St-Pierre – who announced in late 2013, he’d be vacating his title and taking an indefinite leave of absence — will return to the UFC.
Asked Friday why he’s so certain, White said, “Georges St-Pierre never said he was leaving and retiring from fighting.”
“What he said was; he sat down with my partner and I after the fight and said this whole thing got blown out of proportion,” he clarified. “He had some personal problems that he needed to handle.”
“He’s gonna handle them, and he’s gonna come back and get his title back,” White said. “That’s always been the plan with Georges St-Pierre.”
On another front, White also addressed rumors which continue to swirl regarding professional wrestler CM Punk, who — since abruptly leaving the WWE after the “Royal Rumble” pay-per-view in January — people have speculated may make the jump from sports entertainment to the UFC.
“We have literally never talked about business,” White said. “I like him. He’s a fan. I’ve heard rumors out there, and he and I have been around each other and been together – he has never ever – I’ve never talked to him about wrestling and he’s never talked to me about fighting. I have no idea.”
“Would you be open to it?” White was asked by Chad Dukes.
“Um. I mean, yea,” White answered. “I guess if he wanted to fight, I’d talk to him about it.”
