WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Wide receiver Andre Roberts will play in both the slot and wideout positions for the Washington Redskins, he told 106.7 The Fan’s Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier on Thursday.

Roberts, who stands at 5’11”, 195 pounds and signed with Washington on Wednesday, actually chose the Redskins because of the team’s interest in using him in both aspects.

“The situation in Washington was the best for me, just because they wanted me to play inside and outside,” Roberts said of choosing Washington out of the 4 or 5 teams expressing interest in signing him.

“And I wanted the same thing,” he said. “And having a young quarterback in RGIII, and an already established receiver, like Pierre Garcon, to play with was just a great situation to be in.”

“I expect to play opposite Pierre, and play on the inside,” Roberts clarified further. “That’s one thing that other teams wanted me to do, is just play in the slot, and I don’t see myself as a slot guy – and [the Redskins] didn’t either – which made me happy, because I can do both.

“I can play inside and outside, and I’ve done both, and I’ve been successful at both, so that’s what I’ll be doing here,” he said.

As for any prior connections to the Redskins organization, Roberts said he didn’t previously know any of the coaches, but did begin speaking with Robert Griffin III in early 2014.

“I’ve been talking to RGIII for awhile now,” he said. “I actually met him for the first time back in January – he was at the Fiesta Bowl out in Arizona – so we’ve kind of built a relationship from there.”
