LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A store called Wholesale Diamond Consultants in Frederick was robbed this morning, but police say they have recovered most if not all of the stolen diamonds and cash.

There were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery, and no store employees were injured.

According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, the call for the robbery was received and dispatched to deputies at 10:49 a.m. The first arriving units were on the scene at 10:51 a.m.

Investigators believe four suspects were involved, and at least one of them was armed with a handgun.

They say surveillance footage of the surrounding area shows what they believe to be
two of the suspects fleeing the area carrying the bag used to remove the stolen property. In the footage, the subjects walk out of view of the camera and return within 30 seconds without the bag. The footage also shows one of the people walking to a dumpster and throwing something inside before leaving the area.

Authorities searched the dumpster and located what they believe is the handgun used in the robbery. They also checked a nearby waste container and discovered the bag the subject was seen carrying in the video. Inside it they found a significant portion, if not all, of the stolen property.

One suspect has already been taken into custody, but no charges have been filed.

The investigation is ongoing.

Two nearby schools, Ballenger Creek Elementary School and the Carroll Creek Montessori School, were temporarily placed on lockdown status at the beginning of the investigation and have since been reopened.
