LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — An Anne Arundel County police officer opened fire on a person driving a stolen car directly at another officer early Wednesday in Hanover.
Officers were called to the Baltimore Washington Auto Outlet, located in the 2700 block of Annapolis Road, after a burglar alarm went off around 12:37 a.m., police say.
The car thieves were still at the business when police arrived.
An officer chased a person running toward a red 2005 Chevrolet Corvette parked on a nearby street. One of the officers opened fire on the person as they drove the Corvette toward another officer, according to authorities.
The Corvette was last scene driving south on Interstate 295. It isn’t clear whether the driver was struck by the bullet.
A silver 2007 Mercedes Benz CL 550 was also stolen from the business, police say.
The officer who fired his weapon is a three-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Police Department and has been placed on routine administrative leave.
