Va. Principal Reassigned After Suing Four Parents

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond school officials have temporarily moved a principal who is suing four parents to the system’s central office.

Media outlets report that Lucille M. Brown Middle School principal Denise R. Lewis’ reassignment became effective Monday.

Superintendent Dana T. Bedden says in a statement that Lewis is being temporarily reassigned to minimize any distraction that the lawsuit might have on the school.

Lewis’ lawsuit was prompted by a letter published in 2013 in an alternative weekly that was critical of the school’s leadership and climate.

The lawsuit says the defendants conspired to injure Lewis and her reputation. It seeks $3 million in compensatory damages, as well as punitive damages and attorneys’ fees.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported the lawsuit’s filing on Saturday.

No trial date has been set.
