WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – While the world waits to see how the crisis in Ukraine is resolved comes word that an attack is already underway against Ukrainian leaders…a cyberattack, reports CNet.
Members of the Ukraine parliament say their mobile communications have been blocked.
The signal interference is coming from Russian-controlled Crimea, said Valentyn Nalivaichenko, head of Ukraine’s SBU security service.
“At the entrance to (telecoms firm) Ukrtelecom in Crimea, illegally and in violation of all commercial contracts, was installed equipment that blocks my phone as well as the phones of other deputies, regardless of their political affiliation.”
He admitted that the scale of the attack overwhelmed Ukrainian security and said they are fighting back, trying to restore communications.
Russia has a historical stake in controlling the Crimean Peninsula and sent in troops almost immediately after a successful revolution in Kiev overthrew the pro-Russian government.
