Some Md. Schools Seek Snow-Day Waivers From State
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Some Maryland school systems are seeking state relief from scheduling challenges caused by large numbers of snow days.
The Washington County school board says it sent a formal request to the state school board Tuesday, asking to waive at least one day from the 180-day mandatory school year.
The Carroll and Anne Arundel county school systems have said they will seek waivers. And several other districts have said they’re considering the move.
The state board says all 24 districts have exceeded the number of snow days built into their academic calendars by anywhere from two days in Cecil County to 13 in Garrett County.
Spokesman Bill Reinhard says the state board doesn’t have a tally on waiver requests because it hasn’t yet announced a process for considering them.
