WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – A bill proposing a ban on gay players in the NFL will be released by close of business on Thursday, Republican lobbyist Jack Burkman tells 106.7 The Fan.

During an appearance Wednesday evening on “The Don Geronimo Show,” Burkman explained it has taken some time to compose the bill, which was announced earlier this week. He said the proposal is already backed by six members of the U.S. House and one U.S. Senator and expects more support in the future.

“We can break some news here,” Burkman said. “The long-awaited bill that everybody else has been demanding to see – and I’ve been explaining to folks that it takes awhile to do these things – the long-awaited bill will be out by close of business tomorrow.”

The news of the proposal comes as NFL hopeful Michael Sam — a projected mid-round draft selection — prepares to become the first openly gay player in the 94-year history of the NFL.

The groundbreaking former Missouri defensive lineman has since responded to the proposal.

“This isn’t designed to put a gay man above a straight man, or a straight man above a gay man,” Burkman said. “I thought to myself as this was all being devised, would you want cheerleaders and women showering with football players? Well, you and I might, but people wouldn’t have that.”

“Men and women have sexual attraction to each other and we have certain rules and norms in the society,” he explained. “Such is the case between a gay man and a straight man. It’s absolutely no different between men and women. That’s basically the thrust of the legislation.”

“Michelle Obama, the First Lady, has taken great delight in calling me homophobic all over the country,” Burkman said. “She’s been denouncing me for days and days. But that’s okay, it’s a free country.”

Earlier in the week, Burkman asserted his belief that the Americans were losing decency.

“Imagine your son being forced to shower with a gay man. That’s a horrifying prospect for every mom in the country,” he said, via Time Swampland.

DC Solar Solutions, a California-based energy company which reportedly paid Burkman a $30,000 consultancy fee during the fourth quarter of 2013, has publicly severed ties with the outspoken lobbyist because of his controversial agenda.
