Kerry To Brewer: Veto Bill

WASHINGTON (AP) — America’s top diplomat is predicting that the U.S. Supreme Court will strike down an anti-gay proposal in Arizona if it ever becomes law and is calling on the state’s governor to “make the right decision” and veto it.

Secretary of State John Kerry was responding Wednesday to a question about U.S. criticism of a new law in Uganda that punishes gay sex with up to life in prison.

He said recognizing gay rights has not been an easy path in the United States. But he said enormous progress has been made, and that the U.S. will stand up for gay rights worldwide.

Kerry said he is waiting to see if Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer will veto the anti-gay proposal by the Saturday deadline.

His comments came during an MSNBC interview.
