Evans Criticizes Mayoral Rivals on Economic Development

WASHINGTON — D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans says he’s one of three viable candidates for mayor along with incumbent Vincent Gray and Councilmember Muriel Bowser, and he’s taking some shots at their records on economic development.

Evans touted his plan to create jobs and revitalize commercial districts in an appearance Wednesday afternoon in Bowser’s home ward. He says the commercial corridors Bowser represents are still struggling after her seven years of service on the council. Meanwhile, he says his ward, which includes downtown and Georgetown, has made great progress.

Evans also says Gray’s economic development record is lacking.

Evans has raised the most money of any candidate in the April 1 Democratic primary, but polls show him trailing both Gray and Bowser, who picked up The Washington Post’s endorsement last week.
