ARLINGTON, Va. (CBSDC) — A woman was killed when she was hit by a dump truck while putting her child in a vehicle Monday morning in Arlington, police say.

Arlington County Police say the accident happened at about 11:30 a.m. Monday outside Nottingham Elementary School in the 5900 block of Little Falls Road in Arlington.

Authorities say 39-year-old Jennifer Lawson, of Arlington, suffered serious injuries when she was struck by a commercial dump truck while attempting to put her child in a minivan parked on the street outside the school.

She was transported to Fairfax Hospital where she later died.

Police say the accident is under investigation.
