SOCHI, Russia (CBSDC) — A viral video that showed a wolf walking through an Olympics dormitory in Sochi, Russia turned out to be a hoax.

Behind the widespread prank was Jimmy Kimmel, the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on ABC, according to multiple sources.

Olympic luge team member Kate Hansen initially claimed to have shot the video during her stay.

“I’m pretty sure this is a wolf wandering my hall in Sochi,” the 21-year-old athlete was quoted as saying by United Press International.

The video — which was titled “Epic #SochiFail: Wolf in my hall” — soon went viral.

Inside Edition is now reporting that the video was an elaborate hoax, however, according to the Kansas City Star. Publicist Sandy Caligiore, of the United States Luge Association, reportedly told the entertainment news organization that Hansen will Skype in with Kimmel on Thursday night’s show.

This would not the first time Kimmel has fooled millions — last September, he was behind the “Worst Twerk Fail EVER” video, which showed a woman attempting to replicate the dance craze before falling and causing a small fire.

An extended version of the video, played for the first time on the late night host’s show, revealed Kimmel himself bursting through the door to save the day.
