WASHINGTON — A D.C. councilmember is in New Hampshire to try to get support for District of Columbia voting rights in Congress.

Councilmember David Catania will testify Thursday before a committee of the New Hampshire House of Representatives. The committee is considering a resolution in favor of full representation in Congress for the district.

Democratic State Rep. Cindy Rosenwald, a longtime supporter of district voting rights, introduced the resolution. She has introduced similar resolutions in the past, including one calling for the district to become a state. That effort failed in 2012.

D.C. Vote Executive Director Kimberly Perry will also testify.

Catania says it’s important to take the conversation about voting rights outside the borders of the district. The councilmember is an independent who is considering a run for mayor.
