Cafeteria Worker Tased After Alleged Attack at Arlington School

ARLINGTON, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — A cafeteria worker was Tased after allegedly attacking and threatening an administrator at an Arlington County school Wednesday.

Arlington County Police say a female cafeteria manager at Barcroft Elementary School attacked and repeatedly punched the school’s vice principal. The vice principal left the area, but returned to check on the manager, and that’s when the manager grabbed a knife.

Police arrived, and officers say the cafeteria manager told police she had a gun.

When the woman reached for a bag, a police officer Tased her and took her into custody.

Police say no gun was found.

Police say the woman was taken to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

The school, located on South Wakefield Street in Arlington, was placed on a precautionary “shelter in place” lockdown during the incident.

School officials say the first wave of students entering the cafeteria during lunch time might have witnessed the incident.

The mother of a fifth-grade student said she saw about 12 police cruisers and an ambulance outside the school. She said school officials reassured her that all students were safe and never in danger.
