Lebanon Orders Investigation Into Topless Photos Of Olympic Skier
SOCHI, Russia (CBS DC/AP) — A Lebanese Olympic skier is apologizing after topless photos of her recently surfaced as she prepares to compete in Sochi.
Jackie Chamoun took to her Facebook page saying that the images that were leaked came from a photo shoot she did for an Austrian ski calendar three years ago. She said that the photos were not supposed to be released.
“I want to apologize to all of you,” Chamoun posted. “I know that Lebanon is a conservative country and this is not the image that reflects our culture. I fully understand if you want to criticize this.”
Chamoun, who will be competing in the slalom and the giant slalom, described it a “sad” experience and is calling on the public to stop spreading the photos.
“All I can ask to each of you who saw this, is to stop spreading it,” she said. “It will really help me focusing on what is really important now: my trainings and race.”
The Associated Press reports that Lebanon’s Sports and Youth Minister Faisal Karameh has ordered an investigation into the circulating photographs and video.
According to Sky News, Karameh wanted the investigation “to take the required steps to avoid harming Lebanon’s reputation.”
