LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — An accused murderer has been taken into custody in Prince William County after eluding police during a chase Thursday afternoon.
Earl Patrick Mitchell, 20, led Manassas City police officers on a chase that ended near Prince William Parkway and Tattersall Drive in Manassas. He fled the scene on foot and was apprehended by police hours later, according to Prince William County Police.
Police say Mitchell was wanted for murder in Johnstown, Pa., and was considered possibly armed and dangerous.
Authorities used police dogs and helicopters in the search, which was focused on the Lake Jackson Drive area, according to Inside NoVa.
Two nearby schools — Osbourn Park High School and Bennett Elementary School — were placed under “secure the building” status as a precaution.
That status has been lifted at Osbourn High but remains at Bennett Elementary, according to Prince William County Schools officials. All students and staff are safe but the search is causing several school bus delays, according to Inside NoVa.
