LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Don’t have a Valentine this year?
No worries, says NerdWallet.com. A new study by the number-crunching site shows that D.C. is the second best city in the U.S. for singles, statistically speaking.
Why? Because of the number of potential dates, the number of bars and restaurants making up the city’s social scene and date affordability.
More specifically, NerdWallet got its results by calculating the percentage of unmarried people, the number of bars and restaurants per 1,000 residents and the cost of two movie tickets, a meal and one bottle of wine in each city.
They found that the nation’s capital has the fourth-highest percentage of unmarried residents, 73 percent, among the 50 largest metro areas in the country. That compares with a national average of 52 percent.
The District also has 3.52 bars and restaurants per 1,000 residents, and the cost of a date was calculated at around $37.
Baltimore came in close behind D.C., rounding out the top 5. NerdWallet says nearly 74 percent of Baltimore residents are unmarried, and that the city scores relatively better than average in walkability and affordability.
Boston, Mass. came in first place, the Big Apple came in third and Detroit came in fourth. To see the full list, click here.
