Obama to Visit Prince George’s County School
ADELPHI, Md. — President Barack Obama is expected to visit a Prince George’s County school to talk about connecting more schools to high-speed Internet service.
The president plans to visit Buck Lodge Elementary School in Adelphi on Tuesday to talk about his ConnectED initiative.
Obama is expected to talk about progress toward his goal to connect 99 percent of students to next generation broadband and wireless technology within five years.
The Education Department says the Internet capabilities of about 80 percent of schools are too slow or are limited to places such as front offices and computer labs. But the White House says companies will commit a half-billion dollars to support for the president’s pledge to connect 15,000 schools and 20 million students, helping them compete.
