WASHINGTON — District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray is showing his fundraising muscle now that he’s seeking a second term.

Gray reported late Friday that he’s raised $627,000 for the April Democratic primary. The mayor filed to run for re-election on Dec. 2, months after several other candidates had already entered the race, and he formally launched his campaign three weeks ago.

The mayor’s fundraising total is more than triple what any other candidate raised in the 7 ½ weeks since the candidates last filed financial statements.

Overall, D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans has raised the most money — $1.2 million. Councilmember Muriel Bowser is close behind at $1.08 million, and she has the most money left to spend — $791,000. Evans has $685,000 in cash on hand, and Gray has $560,000.
