Fred Smoot to Host Love Boat-Themed Charity Function
More from 106.7 the Fan
WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Fred Smoot appears to be turning something negative into a positive.
Smoot is inviting football fans to join him at a “party for a purpose” – on a party boat in Alexandria to raise money for Wounded Warrior Project.
He may never be able to fully separate his image from the infamous 2005 Love Boat scandal, so why not convert that legacy into dollars for a good cause?
“People are always asking me about that damn love boat party and asking me when the next one is,” Smoot told 106.7 The Fan.
“So we did it,” he said of organizing the long-anticipated follow-up bash.
Tickets to the event – scheduled for Sunday, March, 16 in Alexandria — are currently going for $64.11, but will be retroactively lowered based on the number of tickets purchased (crowdsourcing).
Basically, the admission from the first 200 attendees covers the cost of the boat, and an initial pledge of $1,000 to Wounded Warrior Project. When the number of attendees reaches 300, ticket prices will decrease significantly, also retroactive to those who’ve already paid.
However, Love Boat: Part 2 will be a slightly watered-down version of its predecessor. No strippers.
“No crazy stuff this time,” Smoot promised. “Just a good time with the Redskins faithful for a good cause. I’m a big military guy. I want to do something good with all this bad publicity!”
The evening does promise three hours on a boat in the company of Smoot, and other former and current NFL players, with all you can drink liquor, wine and beer, as well as live music and a DJ.
You’ll likely come away with a “damn good story to tell your friends,” Smoot notes.
