ARLINGTON, Va. (CBSDC) — A man was killed in a violent two-car collision near the Key Bridge in Rossyln early Friday morning.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Lee Highway and Fort Myer Drive around 3 a.m., police say.

The force of the collision ejected one of the drivers and pushed his vehicle completely off the roadway. The man landed in a crosswalk.

Authorities initially believed a pedestrian had been struck while crossing the street, but later discovered the second car.

The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene and was not immediately charged.

It is unclear whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. Police say the accident remains under investigation.

Nearby roads were closed for more than three hours, but were able to reopen in time for morning rush hour.

The victim’s identity has not been released.
