WASHINGTON — District of Columbia Police Chief Cathy Lanier is appearing at a D.C. Council hearing to discuss standards and trainings in the wake of the recent high-profile arrests of police officers.

The Council’s public safety committee has scheduled an oversight hearing for 2 p.m. Friday.

Last month, one officer was charged with producing child pornography while another was accused of running a prostitution operation involving teenage girls. A third who was charged with trying to kill his wife was placed on house arrest Friday.

Police figures show that more than 100 officers have been arrested in the last five years, though many of those cases were dropped, never prosecuted and ended in acquittal.

Lanier has said there’s no widespread corruption and that the department has tightened its recruitment standards.
