1 Dead in Gaithersburg Crash Involving 2 Student Pedestrians

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — One person is dead after two pedestrians were struck in a crash in Gaithersburg, Md., Friday.

Both were students of the nearby K-12 Covenant Life School, WNEW’s Violet Ikonomova reports.

A preliminary investigation revealed two vehicles traveling westbound on Muncaster Mill Road, coming from Shady Grove Road, collided in the 7900 block and struck the students, Montgomery County Police say.

WJLA reports the Jaws of Life had to be used to pry three people from the two vehicles.

The road was closed in both directions while a collision reconstruction unit examined the scene.

Investigators say speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. All involved were transported to hospitals or trauma centers.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
