LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Will Justin Bieber’s Miami Beach arrest help or harm his career?
The 19-year-old pop star has been released on $2,500 bail after being arrested for DUI and resisting arrest early Thursday morning.
He was allegedly drag racing with friends.
This obviously isn’t the first time a young star has been in trouble with the law, but some careers have thrived better than others after police run-ins.
Actress Lindsay Lohan, now 27, was first arrested for driving under the influence in 2007, when she was just 20. She was arrested a second time just a few months later and has also been in and out of rehab several times.
Lohan has only acted in a handful of feature length films since her arrests and is nominated for Golden Raspberry Awards for three out of the four films she appeared in last year.
Singer Chris Brown was first arrested on Feb. 8, 2009 for a now infamous physical encounter with then-girlfriend Rihanna. He was charged with felony assault a month later.
In October, Brown was arrested for felony assault again, this time in D.C.
Brown has released three albums since his initial arrest, with a fourth due out this year. F.A.M.E., which was released in 2011, even won a Grammy for Best R&B Album.
Lil Wayne (Dwayne Michael Carter) and Amanda Bynes are two more examples of stars with criminal records. Bynes told several news outlets in September 2012 that she was retiring from acting. Carter, who actually served a year in prison for his crimes, has said in interviews that he has set a future retirement date for himself.
