OXON HILL, Md. (CBSDC) — Two people were killed and one was injured when a car fell off an overpass in Prince George’s County early Monday morning, authorities say.
The fatal accident happened around 2 a.m. in Oxon Hill when a Chevy Tahoe traveling northbound on Indian Head Highway went off the overpass, struck a guardrail and light pole, and overtuned onto Oxon Hill Road below, according to police.
WNEW’s John Domen says the SUV came to rest upside down in the northbound lanes of Oxon Hill Road. Domen says the SUV fell about 30 feet in all.
The driver, 45-year-old James Henderson of Alexandria, and one of the passengers, 30-year-old Aayoni Williams of Alexandria, were pronounced dead on the scene. Another passenger was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Police say speed may have been a factor in the crash.
Oxon Hill Road was closed between National Harbor and the ramp to Indian Head Highway for several hours as police investigated the accident.
