FERNDALE, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — A man crossing the street in Ferndale was injured after being struck by a passing car, and police say alcohol may have played a factor.
The collision occurred just before 6 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard and Ferndale Road.
Police say Lawrence Scott Tholen walked out in front of the car at the crosswalk. The 53-year-old man was crossing against the traffic signal and was wearing dark clothing.
Police say 25-year-old Nikki Ray Estraca tried to brake and swerved, but could not avoid hitting Tholen, whose injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Authorities believe Tholen had been drinking and that his alcohol use contributed to the collision.
Police say Estraca had not been drinking, and there’s no evidence to suggest that she had been speeding.
