LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Commuters taking MARC trains into or out of Washington experienced significant delays Friday evening.

The Maryland Transit Administration says that switch and signal problems at Union Station are delaying arriving and departing trains.

Train 428 — scheduled to depart at 4:10 p.m. to Penn Station — was cancelled. Train 447 — scheduled for a 5:50 p.m. departure out of Union Station — also was cancelled.

As a result, Train 536 is making all stops between Union Station and Perryville. Passengers also are able to take Train 634.

Train 875 — scheduled to depart at 4:25 p.m. to Martinsburg — was delayed about 30 minutes due to switch problems. Train 850 — scheduled to depart at 5:22 p.m. — left D.C. 15 minutes late due to train congestion at Union Station.

MTA says Train 445 — 5:25 p.m. departure — and Train 449 — 6:25 p.m. departure — were scheduled to depart on time.

Metro says it is honoring MARC tickets.
