LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — New York Jets special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica is the latest person to interview with the Washington Redskins as Jay Gruden continues to assemble his new-look coaching staff.

If hired, Kotwica would take over for former special teams head Keith Burns who was fired after one dismal season with the team.

He interviewed with the Redskins on Tuesday, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. The interview comes on the same day Washington finalized a deal with Sean McVay to promote the young tight ends coach to offensive coordinator.

It is unclear whether Kotwica will ultimately accept a new contract offered to him by the Jets to remain on Rex Ryan’s staff.

He played linebacker for Army and became a decorated officer with seven years of service after graduating from West Point. Kotwica recently interviewed for the Black Knight’s head coaching position, but was not offered the job.
