WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – According to a recent poll, Americans feel that the largest problem plaguing the nation is its government.
The poll, conducted by researchers at Gallup, found that 21 percent of people in the United States rank issues within government – including a perceived lack of leadership and abuse of power – as the top issue.
“Mentions of the government as the top problem remain higher than they were prior to the partial government shutdown in October,” researchers noted. “During the shutdown, the percentage naming the government as the top problem doubled to 33 percent from 16 percent in September.”
The economy in general – and unemployment in particular – were close behind on the list, according to a release on the poll’s findings, as well as issues concerning healthcare costs.
Those involved with polling feel the disastrous rollout of the Affordable Care Act might have contributed to the especially high ranking of healthcare on the list.
“Mentions of healthcare … have quadrupled – from 4 percent in January [of] 2013 to 16 percent today, likely related to highly visible problems with the rollout of the 2010 healthcare law,” the release indicated.
The poll was conducted between Jan. 5 and Jan. 8 of this year, and involved a reported 1,018 randomly selected American adult participants.
