LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Officials are warning of a possible scheme aiming to trick Prince George’s County residents out of money.
The Office of the Fire Marshal has received several inquiries and a copy of a flyer (pictured above) that is being distributed seeking a $25 payment for a “fire inspection.”
Fire officials advise residents who receive the flyer not to pay any money and instead contact the Fire/EMS Department Office of the Fire Marshal at 301-583-1830.
Along the same lines, they say if someone passing out the flyers confronts you to call 911 immediately and report the incident. Any of the county’s actual Fire Inspectors would display a badge and credentials identifying themselves as a member of the Fire/EMS Department.
The Fire/EMS Department says they would never solicit inspections or fees in this method.
