LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A child playing on an icy pond in Montgomery County has died after falling into the water Monday afternoon.
Police have identified the boy as 10-year-old DeAngelo McMullen of Rockville.
Rescue units were called to the area of Reprise Drive in Gaithersburg around 4:15 p.m.
WNEW’s Matt DelSignore said it took about 30 minutes for about 75 fire and rescue personnel to pull the 10-year-old boy from the sediment pond located near a construction site off Great Seneca Highway.
The child was reportedly playing with two other boys on the ice around 4 p.m. when he fell in. Temperatures reached into the mid 50s Monday, but parts of the pond were still iced over.
The pond is reportedly 10 feet deep in some spots.
The two other children who fell into the pond were treated at the hospital and released. DeAngelo was transported to the hospital but died Monday evening.
