LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — With an increase in thefts from cars in Prince George’s County, police are urging drivers to lock their doors while pumping gas.
Police say a thief can snatch several valuables from an unlocked car and get away in seconds. Pursues, according to authorities, have been the most sought after item by thieves.
Since Dec. 3, police say at least 30 thefts from cars at gas stations have been reported. Some of the hot spots for car thefts at gas stations include Landover, Lanham, Largo and Upper Marlboro.
Detectives continue to investigate the string of thefts, but believe they are connected.
Police suggest locking your car and being aware of your surroundings while filling up the tank.
“Please lock your doors and keep your valuables with you,” Prince George’s County Police spokesperson Nicole Hubbard said. “Keep an eye on your pump and on the driver’s side.”
