Gray Apologizes For 2010 Mayoral Campaign

Mayor Gray Apologizes

WASHINGTON — District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray has apologized for misconduct that occurred during his 2010 campaign, but reiterated that he didn’t do anything wrong and didn’t know others were breaking the law.

Gray said in an interview on Channel 9 on Wednesday that he was sorry and accepted responsibility for the campaign, which has been under federal investigation for most of his term.

Four people who worked on the campaign have pleaded guilty to felonies, two of them for helping to orchestrate and spend $653,000 in illicit funds on Gray’s behalf.

Gray said in the interview that the campaign was hastily put together and conduct occurred that was “painful” and “embarrassing.”

He said he didn’t know anything about the crimes, but wanted to apologize because “it was the Vincent Gray campaign.”
